Young Fall Mallard Female Dines in the Afternoon on Algae
Pale by comparison to the male, I have heard said, but how is it possible to compare beauty with beauty?

The duckweed/wheat meal which invaded the Meer is a very clever plant.
It is not indigenous to the park lakes. The story is that someone dumped their fish tank into the lake back in May and because of the early warm water, the duckweed took off. Occasionally when it has gotten cold it completely disappears and then returns in full force... So I asked.....that smart tiny plant drops down about 2 feet under where the water is warmer then resurfaces when the sun is out... the Chinese harvest it and make fuel and a sort of tofu like product to feed farm animals..smarties they are..
The herbologist for the park says one freeze or good frost should kill it all. It doesn't harm the lake
but it has often looked like you could walk right across it.... Yucky and sticks on the dog's noses!!
