Now and then we get to experience the essence of cooperation and color coordination. Conservancy Gardens, Fall 2012

Just in Case

Image
Just once you held my hand, and that was really all it took.   I let a momentary incident take on the flavor of a life,  just in case there is no writing on the wall. The Secret Garden, Central Park in New York City

A Summer Palate

Long ago & far away That exquisite string of life sewed us to the earth. Clotheslines climbing over backyards, Wet sheets bleached by sunshine, Breezes lifting up the drying edges. Water from a vacation spring, Iron spigot smelling cold, Quivering leaf reflections, Mountain muddy, Washed in micro-studded sand. Magic waters alive with  sharp spruce, Blue jays and hummingbirds, Grey rough pine twigs snapped off for kindling.   Doorway dreams of Grizzly Bears attacking porches Just in time for morning.

Technology! Humbug!

The trouble with technology if I can use an analogy is it's like the umbrella and rain. When you back up the thing, It will sing like the spring  it returns every ping, it will do everything. But whatever the season, whatever the reason, miss one single night and it crashes outright! I followed directions, I made the connections, . I set up the files and cascaded the styles! Now there's nothing in sight; not even a byte, and there's nothing to say at the end of the day but goodnight! .

An Afternoon Nap, Maybe

Image
The fruit is hanging low; It’s late. the season’s over. If you were here (and I knew where) I’d find a hayloft for an afternoon, in my mind of course. Those sticky straws green and new-mown as they are,   are very hard to sleep on.   I have a feather bed I bought, though. It doesn’t seem like much to give. but you might want to wait and see.*   * I switched this photo with the blog from four blogs down!

Splendor in the Leaves

These very considerate leaves are willing to put up with an occasional bloom while still maintaining their beautiful symmetry. Conservancy Garden, August

A Rose By Any Other Name

Is still a rose, is a rose, is a rose, is a rose, still smells as sweet, as sweet, as sweet

On Discovering Old Letters

Image
I discovered a friend I forgot somehow, did that ever happen to you? It was long ago and far away, in a different social milieu. I found a letter way down in a box with leftover pieces and tatters I was busy I guess, with work and success, I didn’t have time for such matters. The ink is still black, the penmanship clear, the paper still pristine and white. (I imagine I kept it for all these years, since I really intended to write.) You were back this way from London that day, fell in love on the way, we had missed our connections for lunch that day. I had come into town for a job interview, I know since I read it in page two from you... I guess I passed by a lot in those times, with their dancing, loving, whiskies and wines. Waiting; Waiting;

Image
There exists a silence in the morning light, waiting by the old creekbed, watching for beaver with the morning star, Oh where is messy dawn! Green stalks clinging to blue astors , petals glued by their yellow centers, wet grass bending. Oh where, where is the ruby-throated humming bird! How can we wait another day?   Labyrinth, Villa Des Amis near Sag Harbor

Horsetail Sky--

This beautiful Horsetail Sky was photographed by our iPhone-carrying SkyWatcher.  When we see such a Sky, some say Bad Weather will follow.  When?.  Well it depends. Horsetail Sky over Manhattan,  Red Saturated Horsetail Sky, as seen by an iPhone

An Evergreen with a Vagabond Gene

Image
I’m a small evergreen with a vagabond gene,   I was dropped in this root in July. It's a deciduous tree, yet it’s perfect for me, although, I can’t figure out why. It seems pretty clear Tree knows that I’m here, but I haven’t caused any frustration. Tree knows I’m a tree but not that I’m me, with my evergreen orientation. Now it happens that Tree has been sheltering me from the wind and the sleet and the rain. We’ve been bonding it seems, with our schemes and our dreams, we’re so different, it’s hard to explain. By the time Tree perceives I’m not losing my "leaves", I will probably seem like the norm. We have plans for our life, so whatever the strife, together we’ll weather the storm.   In The Curled Root of My Deciduous Tree

it Is Time

Image
I’ll wait, but not too long before the flame burns out an inch before the fuse. You can wait, but not too long before the veins pull back, and the sap turns sticky on the limb. Don’t wait too long, there is a cutoff date for dreams if not for dreaming. Summer Evening Crossing Park Avenue, New York City
