Marching Trees Preparing for Winter

Image
It's mid-summer and already time for the 'running of the trees'.  From late afternoon on, when the slopes are clear, the aspens begin to prepare the runs for Winter Skiing.  Each year, the trees march up the mountain side to ensure the absolutely best contours for each run.  Of course, this event is seldom seen and almost never photographed! Steamboat Springs

Image
A cruel knife sliced up the time and I was lost between the molecules of days I know what lives within those empty spaces I do know those variegated streams that swirl and play and roar through dreams The grainy stuff of life A black stained road A colored mist Thin cotton curtains on the flyspecked window pane A mountain aster in the early morning rain Long ago I saw that very flower Wild in a well of painted dreams     South of Steamboat Springs in Early Afternoon South of Steamboat Springs in LateAfternoon

Help. Help!

Help! Ahoy! I am stranded in my beloved Colorado mountains in a cozy condo. I am surrounded by incredible rain & beauty, but I am trapped without Internet uplinking stuff! Tomorrow for sure.

Playing in the Wind

It was late afternoon, and my sparrow Ounce and I took one of our  walks into the Secret Garden.  I turned away for a moment, it was a hot day, the fountain bowl was full, and you know Ounce!

Creeping Mudpuddles

Image
Several mudpuddle have gone missing in recent weeks, and we are very suspicious.  This clandestine photo appears to reveal  errant mudpuddles cooperating to play a practical joke on two Innocent Tourists. Two tourists searching a mudpuddle map for nearby puddles.

Once Upon a Time

Image
I remember that morning when the grass was as green as a new promise, And I was off and free, young and restless, bold and happy go lucky.  I had a borrowed car, and I felt wanted And I felt rich And I felt dressed And all of a sudden I was possible.  I had a date with an Air Force boy, and off we went.   Nothing happened.  Nobody saw me quite the way I saw myself.  I guess new cars were common then, in the last century.

Snowball Flower

Image
"What shall I do", I said . "It's so hot here and there is no shade! There is no place to rest." But wait!  There, right above me, is the most beautiful cloudy Snow Flower. And look! The closer I come the more friendly it is. I'll just climb up this stalk and rest awhile in a fork. Oh, my. The air is as cool as a leaf , and the bed is as soft and sweet as a petal.

Escaping City Wildflowers Caught Playing

Image
Shhhhhhh.....Escape in progress... These beautiful wildflowers have been confined behind bars to keep them from entering a local playground.  They are thought to interfere with the asphalt and metal decor deemed suitable for children. However, it's evening now.... East 96th Street Schoolyard

Brownstone with Doorway

Image
It’s monochromatic; just brown to be seen, Not a red, not a blue, Not a varying hue, Not a hint of an aquamarine! Yes, there might be a tan or a green here and there, And maybe a black or a yellow somewhere, And maybe a grey or a pink but I swear There is nothing at all in between. But wait! Up those stairs, it looks like a light! Could it be that something’s expected tonight? There’s a dweller within! Things are not so clear-cut, The door isn’t closed, only partially shut. It’s not just a door, but a portal, that’s what! Just inches away is a magic domain With promises waiting, with dreams to regain There's a love to revive with a soul to redeem With peaches, and oranges and berries and cream.
